Looking for work? KEE can help!
Knox Employment Entry Program is proud to partner with YES! Winnipeg on the Job Connections Portal. This Portal gives job seekers an advance matching system to save them time and effort when looking for a job. This digital platform allows job seekers of all backgrounds and levels of experience to create a secure free profile that captures their skills, experience, education, and career preferences. When employers post jobs that match your profile and preferences, you’ll be invited to apply. That means you’ll only receive notifications for jobs that are relevant to your skills and goals.
This is a great "passive" way to look for work. You can also be "proactive" by applying at jobs on this site as directed on each ad or just use this link as a job search tool. Note: Employers do not see your personal information until you actually apply for a position with them.
The site is run by the Government of Canada.
Remember to expand your job search to find more opportunities by typing in various names for the type of work you are looking for. Ex: Customer Service (also type in "consumer relations", "customer", "service", etc.)
MTEC is known for posting great opportunities in Winnipeg!

The more sites you check, the more chances you have. On Workopolis, you can also sign up for free job alerts in the job sector you want to work in!

Some companies also have "Corporate" jobs available but require you to apply in a different manner and possibly even a different website. Research for the type of job you are looking for and how to apply for that position.
Some companies are franchises and will not have jobs posted on website (apply in person instead).
Use the list above to inspire you to think what other businesses are in the area or perhaps what similar industry companies are there in Winnipeg and how can you apply there (use steps in KEE Guidebook).
Use Google Maps to plan your day and see what other businesses are nearby that you can apply at.
Do you know someone who works at a company that you would like to work for? Talk to them about how to get a job with that company, perhaps they will give you the name of the person who recruits for the company. Or perhaps that company is sponsoring an event, introduce yourself and get some business cards, then touch base with them once every few months to keep them in their mind.
This is also known as an "elevator pitch", it's short (around 30 seconds) and will tell the person who you are, what you are passionate about and what you are looking for. Customize it for whom you are speaking to (the person who does the hiring or perhaps someone who works for that company that can give you some tips on getting hired there).
An example could be "My name is ________, my background is working direct with customers who have questions or concerns. My passion is providing great customer service by meeting and doing my best to exceed customers' expectations. I'm looking to bring my skills and grow with ______ (name of company you are referring to) and I would love to be considered for one of your open positions.
First off, follow instructions on job posting (if there is one), some employers do not want you to go in person. The majority of companies do not mind, you may find yourself in the right place at the right time. Some employers do not have time to post ads online and some employers prefer hiring people who come in person because they may think it shows they really want to work for them.
Demonstrate to the employer that you really want the job by following-up. For jobs that receive a lot of applicants, this helps the employer decide who is a good candidate to interview because they know an employee will do a better job if they really want to be part of their team.
This is also a way to overcome Applicant Tracking System Software which may not have allowed your resume to even be seen by a potential employer (they can however still access it by demand).
Know what the company does before you apply. When you research the company knowing what they do, how they do it and what they expect from their staff, you can easily customize your commercial/elevator-pitch to reflect that knowledge along with customizing a great cover letter, creating a version of your resume that reflects the job you are applying for, following-up information that reflects what you will bring to the job and give a great interview showing you are indeed a great fit for that company.
If you click on the links above and the company you are interested in does not have any postings, check back. You can also contact them in person as you may be in the right place at the right time.
If any of the links above do not work, please let us know.
If you have a smart phone, you can download free apps from your phone that can even alert you instantly on job postings that may be of interest to you.
KEE recommends these reputable apps: Indeed, Monster, ZipRecruiter, Glassdoor and the Canada Government Job Bank. As you will see, there are many more job finding apps. As with anything you do online, proceed with caution and do your research before sharing any confidential information.
*Please note: Whenever you apply for work online or create an online profile, proceed with caution. The Knox Employment Entry Program is not liable for anything that may happen as a result of creating a job candidate profile or while any client is seeking employment.
